Legionella Not Detected Without Chemical

Background

The water quality of a cooling tower system in an organization was failed for the first half year of 2008. Ordinary chemicals such as biocide, scale and corrosion inhibitor are used in the condensing water.

Although chemicals were changed for several times, the tests were still failed. We were referred by another organization to see if we can address and fix the problem.

According to the system configuration, only one unit of AquaKLEAR is required and installed to the condensing water supply header pipe. As agreed with the management, a one month trial can be arranged since no field case study is done before and water sample should be tested weekly.

Result

As reported by the management, the clarity of condensing water had a noticeably change in just two weeks time and the total bacterial count became less than 1000CFU/mil and Legionella was not detected.

The most criteria point is no chemical was applied to the condensing water during the trial because the management wants to test AquaKLEAR's full power.

There has been an occasion that the chemicals supplier offered a new chemical which claimed to be powerful enough to do the job at the site. Under such request, AquaKLEAR was shut down while new chemical was applied. The total bacteria count and Legionella count reached an unacceptable level in the water sample test report of the following month.

AquaKLEAR gained its value in bacteria killing since the case.
